3 meanings of “let fate take its own course”

-

According to Buddhism, “let fate take its own course” has three meanings:

  • First, for the past, let it go and don’t dwell on it, because dwelling on it cannot bring anything back. No one can find happiness through regret.
  • Second, for the future, do not wait or hope too much, as no one can find happiness through waiting and hoping.
  • Third, cherish the connections and relationships that are present in your life right now. The issue is that we often fail to recognize or believe that the current connections can bring us happiness.

Do we ever believe that those close to us can bring happiness? The answer is yes, but perhaps in the past, we may have felt exhausted and wanted to distance ourselves from them. However, as we grow, we need to move beyond those feelings to reach a new state of being. The enlightened masters all agree that happiness can only exist when we are fully present in the moment, when our body and mind are united and complete. Whatever connections appear before us, we respect and live fully with them.

As humans, we are still very deep and complex. Even though we may engage deeply with the present moment and cherish it, we may still not find happiness, because there may be unresolved issues between us and others. It could be that we or others have hurt each other, or there may be prejudices we both carry. Even if both of us are present in the current moment, if those issues are not addressed, happiness will still not come.
