Why did the Buddha not allow women to become monks multiple times? Because the Buddha understood that women’s minds are more easily inspired but often hard to keep steady. For example, when happy, it’s easy to feel motivated to help others, but when seeing someone suffering, one might quickly promise to help. Even when angered, women are more likely to react immediately and leave. This is not necessarily bad, but it’s important to recognize one’s own nature.
Everyone has both male and female traits, but we need to transform these traits into the qualities of a Bodhisattva. Male and female tendencies often shift with emotions, joy, and sorrow, which are worldly. On the other hand, the Bodhisattva’s nature is awakened, seeing the world with wisdom. Men and women tend to view situations in their own ways, and these perspectives are often influenced by temporary emotions rather than genuine compassion.
Only by transforming these emotions can we maintain steadfastness on our spiritual path.
